These are the books I plan to read in 2024. I want to read less than 30 books this year. That is ~20% less than last year, which is intentional. Why read fewer books? Because I intend to write more and have other pursuits to which I am allocating the reclaimed time.
I can safely say I have at least 200 books either on my wish list, which is really 14 separate lists on Amazon, or purchased and unread on my Kindle. I occasionally look at my lists and re-sort them based on what's most interesting or pertinent to me in the moment. This gave me several prioritized lists that I selected from to build my 2024 list.
Part of my process was identifying areas I want to study and "go deep" into this year - communication, leadership, principles, thinking, and understanding myself. The choice to "go deep" was driven by a sense that I have gone broad and it's time to be more focused to improve mastery.
I also decided I want to read Nassim Nicholas Taleb's "Incerto" collection, hence three of his books.
There's also a fair amount of recency bias in my 2024 list. Most of the books on my list were mentioned during podcasts I listened to last year. Several of them have been mentioned on multiple episodes and different podcasts which boosts the weight of their recommendation value to me.
thank you Dan, that makes sense. I should also decide on some areas. then look at my wish list to shortlist a few books to read and buy them. then stick to those purchases till I go through them. maybe I can define those areas based on my 2024 goals. also: loved nasim taleb's books despite them being very hard to read. changed my perspective on a few things
loved your idea of deciding about your future books. this intentional approach seems new and interesting to me.
i'm curious how you came up with this list? e.g. i have 75 books in my wish list, but it is now a chore to sort through them to decide which to read.
